Fri, February 29th, Leap Year! To celebrate our extra day, Karen-eve Bayne, performer and monologist, is hosting a "Leap Into Henderson County," evening to celebrate and to raise funds for Henderson County's Youth 4-H Program. The event will feature music and stories about Henderson County's amazing early settlers, gardens, and how apples came to the county. Karen-eve will perform the celebrated story, "The Man Who Planted Trees' by Jean Giono. Karen-eve, a former 4-Her, is a member of the 4-H Advisory Committee. This master storyteller will enchant and enthrall audiences of all ages. It is intelligent entertainment! Ages 9+-adults. 7 pm. Feb 29 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1245 6th Avenue, Hendersonville. 4-H clubs will provide baked goods to sell. March, ’08 – Assessments - UNC-CH will be conducting a Healthy Aging Walking Study in partnership with the Council on Aging for Henderson County.  Participant recruitment and preliminary assessments begin in March 2008 with the study group participating in a supervised walking program in April and May.  The study includes adults 60 years or older who are overweight and have at least one chronic health condition such as diabetes or arthritis.   Please call Michele Skeele for more information, 828-551-6415.

Sat, March 8th, ’08 – Meeting - Habitat is having an information meeting at 10am in the Hendersonville Main Library. Anyone is invited to attend. Habitat for Humanity is a housing ministry that offers nice and affordable new homes to the residents of Henderson County.  To qualify, the family must be living in substandard housing, have an income within 30 to 50 percent of the median county income based on family size, and be willing to partner with Habitat which includes helping build the house.  This is a wonderful opportunity open to most of our families, a chance for them to own their own house and have a yard.    http://habitat-hvl.org/habitat-selecting.asp
